Indian telecoms firm buys Belgacom satellite business
An Indian satellite telecoms and technology solutions provider has purchased the satellite broadcast and services business including the TV and telecoms teleport assets of Belgacom, Belgium’s national telecoms company. ORG Informatics Limited (Bombay Stock Exchange, BSE: ORGINFO), expects to open up new revenue opportunities for Indian and other South Asian broadcasters through various satellite based solutions including broadcasting across Europe, Middle East and Africa to over ORG intends to provide a low cost access to the Asian content providers across Europe, addressing over 1.5 million households from the region, voice over IP (VoIP) and satellite monitoring.

Belgacom is one of Europe’s premiere national telecoms companies with over Euro 6 billion in annual revenues. Its international carrier subsidiary Belgacom International Carrier Services (BICS) is a JV with Swisscom Carrier Services, and is the world’s eighth biggest telecoms traffic carrier. Belgacom has built up its teleport infrastructure since 1970, and is spread over two teleports in Belgium - one at Lessive in southern Belgium and the other at Liederkerke on the Northern outskirts of the capital, Brussels.
William Mosseray, chief strategy officer of Belgacom Group said, “We found that ORG were the right entrepreneurial organisation to buy our assets and they also gave us confidence to continue to serve our own ongoing satellite requirements.”
Ajoy Khandheria, group CEO of ORG, added, “In the Belgacom satellite business we saw considerable opportunities to grow the business based on the excellent assets and blue-chip clients that Belgacom and its staff had cultivated with pride over time. And in Belgacom we saw a complementary ally to work with. Belgacom’s satellite business will also provide a footprint in Europe for ORG’s IT and telecom products and services.”
