CamSemi far east sales drive
CamSemi (previously Cambridge Semiconductor, a university spin-out featured in The Chilli in June 2003) has appointed distributors in South Korea, Japan and China as part of a far east sales drive for its AC to DC offline power management ICs. The company now has four global distributors which have been announced in 2007 – Gencore Technology Co Ltd. headquartered in Seoul, Cornes Dodwell headquartered in Tokyo, Supreme Electronics based out of Taiwan for Greater China, and Redtree Solutions for Europe.

CamSemi is launching a major sales push into Korea in partnership with Gencore and to start securing design wins for its devices. Gencore’s expertise is in its strong technical support for power conversion applications and established channels into the volume consumer market. The company has long-term supply relationships into global consumer brands such as Samsung and LG, as well as access to a wide base of specialist power supply companies.
In Japan, Cornes Dodwell goes back almost 150 years ago with its first offices being in London and Yokohama. Since then, the company has forged exceptionally strong working relationships within Japan’s consumer, professional and industrial electronics sectors. Cornes Dodwell specialises in the promotion and sale of products and technology sourced from companies headquartered in the west and, with origins rooted in the UK, is particularly skilled in bridging east-west cultures.
Supreme Electronics is a Taiwan-based distributor which will help identify and service additional major sales opportunities and significantly widen the market for CamSemi’s products in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, while the company continues working directly with several leading power supply and lighting manufacturers based in the region.
“Greater China is the manufacturing centre for the world’s consumer electronics industry and the largest of our initial focus markets,” said David Baillie, CEO at CamSemi. “Supreme is the ideal strategic sales partner to help us move into the wider market. They have a powerful blend of technical and system design expertise, an enthusiastic approach and well established relationships with regionally based power supply and product manufacturers.”
Redtree Solutions was appointed in May 2007 to focus on developing sales opportunities in Europe.
