Burnett, managing director of IDB Technologies and a director of Jemi UK, the Joint Equipment and Materials Initiative, was recognised for his personal efforts in supporting new companies in the sector, as both board member and mentor, and for his work in pulling new technologies from the science base and into commercial application.
Speaking at the awards dinner NMI’s CEO Derek Boyd said, “I was very proud to present Ian with the award this year. He is someone whose efforts to support the industry go far beyond any personal interests. Ian has always given up a great deal of his own time for the benefit of the industry as a whole – purely and simply because he whole heartedly supports the need for a strong microelectronics industry in the UK and Ireland.”
The other NMI award winners were:
- Energy efficiency: Freescale Semiconductor
- Start-up of the year: Nanotech Semiconductor
- Innovation: ST Microelectronics (Imaging Division)
- Services to training and education: EDA Solutions
- Emerging technology company of the year: DisplayLink
- Manufacturing site of the year: Zetex Semiconductors
