Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys Technologies is to speak in London on 21st November 2008 as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week of events. As guest speaker at The Indus Entrepreneurs UK (TiE UK) event, Mr. Murthy will share his views on the key elements involved in building a sustainable and successful global enterprise.
Narayana Murthy is a leading light of the Indian IT industry. A software engineer by training, he started Infosys, along with a group of six people with a mere US$ 250 in 1981. Today, Infosys is a global leader in next generation IT services and consulting, with revenues of over US$ 4 billion. The company is headquartered in India and publicly traded on the NASDAQ. Mr. Murthy is currently chairman of the board and chief mentor of Infosys, having led the company as CEO for 21 years from 1981 to 2002.
Mr. Murthy said, “I am extremely proud to be part of the TiE global entrepreneur network and delighted that TiE UK has invited me to speak at their event to mark Global Entrepreneurship Week. This organisation offers a unique forum where successful business leaders can share their experience with the next generation of entrepreneurs. In this global economic situation, entrepreneurship is fundamental to revive and regenerate the economy.”
Apurv Bagri, TiE Global Chairman, added, “TiE UK has won two awards this year during the TiE global awards ceremony, ‘Consistently Performing at the Highest Level’ and ‘Most Successful Collaboration with another Entity and/or Chapter’, and has become the second leading chapter within the TiE ecosystem. I am delighted that TiE UK will be celebrating these awards and Global Enterprise week on 21 November with Narayana Murthy, one of our most inspirational global entrepreneurs and a member of TiE’s board of trustees.”
“As the balance of economic power tilts and as Asia rises in prominence, I believe that entrepreneurs will lead the economic change we need in the next few years and TiE has an important and natural role in disseminating the very best in entrepreneurial practice across both East and West.”
TiE UK is part of a not-for-profit global entrepreneurs’ network, founded in Silicon Valley in 1992 with a mission to nurture entrepreneurship as the engine of wealth creation. It has since grown to 52 chapters (branches) in 11 countries. TiE’s regular members are up-and-coming entrepreneurs operating in sectors ranging from IT, healthcare and financial services, to property, retail and marketing. Worldwide, more than 12,000 members now benefit from TiE’s mentoring and education programmes and inspirational networking events.
TiE’s UK charter members are successful entrepreneurs and senior professionals who serve as mentors to the next generation of entrepreneurs, and include Lord Karan Bilimoria, founder of Cobra Beer, James Caan, founder of the Alexander Mann headhunting group, and George Coelho, managing director of Good Energies and formerly founder of Benchmark Capital Europe.
In 2008, Enterprise Week will be part of the first ever Global Entrepreneurship Week. It is a worldwide celebration of enterprise, which aims to unleash young people’s enterprising ideas and address some of society’s biggest issues, from poverty reduction through to climate change.
It was inspired by Make your Mark Enterprise Week and founded by Make your Mark and the Kauffman Foundation, the world’s largest foundation dedicated to entrepreneurship. Activities from speeches and speed networking through to large scale competitions will inspire, connect, inform, mentor and engage the next generation of entrepreneurs. More than 70 countries are currently signed up to run their very own versions of Enterprise Week, all coming under the banner of Global Entrepreneurship Week. Although it is global in scope, there are many local initiatives reflecting the customs and entrepreneurial culture of the many countries taking part.
