Entrepreneurship: the journey continues
The Chilli says thank you and expands research
This is the time of the year when people take stock of what they set out to do and review what they actually managed to achieve. It is also the time when some people consider changes in their career and lifestyle. We have seen this,in visitor patterns and some unique reader behaviour, especially those who spend considerable time visiting archived articles, whether it’s an old due diligence report, market trends article or an executive interview. It could be that various people are contemplating starting out on their own, or just catching up on their reading. The Chilli gets its greatest number of visits and page views during this winter holiday season. We are proud to support and inspire these individuals as they venture out on a new road and start the entrepreneurship journey.

As The Chilli enters its fifth year, we are pleased to report that there are many organizations that have caught the ’Entrepreneurship Bug’. Everyone from government-funded organizations and networking clubs, to publishing and event management companies are doing the entrepreneurship dance. One thing we do request is that entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs are treated with respect and not used as an excuse for cheap entertainment, and as a means to sponge more public funds to feed the lifestyles of business support consultants.
With so much attention, millions of pounds are being poured into this mission – however, a word of caution must be expressed, which we will come to shortly.
First of all, it is said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so we at The Chilli feel quite pleased by the amount of attention being given to this topic and our content. For every newsletter that goes out we get on average three visitors to our site. Wherever we go, we see The Chilli’s research, articles and reports being used as reference material and even being copied for distribution within organizations (Editor’s note: please respect and observe copyright laws when you do this – if you are utilizing our material for commercial use, then you need our permission. Please contact us and we will be happy to work with you).
For example, investors, prospects, suppliers and advisors are using our Due Diligence reports to evaluate the companies that they are considering working with. The global reach of The Chilli has expanded considerably, reaching new readers and visitors, spanning from California to Tokyo.
Our Editorial, Speakers Corner and Dialogue pieces are being used as a source of widespread debate and discussion among policy makers, government officials, angels, VCs, banks and the tech industry.
Our Trade Secrets are, as always, found to be a useful source of reference for high-tech start-ups and even non high-tech start-ups. Then there are the Benchmarks & Definitions, which we are being widely adopted by both investors and advisors, as we all try and learn how to better communicate within the startup ecosystem.
The point of this is The Chilli’s mission from the beginning has been to provide practical guidance and role models to high-tech entrepreneurs, investors and advisors.
When Entrepreneurship becomes a populist mission for the masses, for television ratings, or for more public votes, we need to be careful not to lose sight of what we are out to achieve.
For this reason, The Chilli has avoided taking the ‘popular’ route and we remain committed to providing serious research, analysis for public debate and practical guidance to entrepreneurs, investors, and advisors.
We could not have maintained this stance without all the parties who have supported us in this mission – our subscribers, sponsors and partners.
So on that note, we’d like to say thank you, and wish you all a very happy holiday season and a prosperous new year in 2006.
