The real dragons' den – no reality TV, just sensible education on pitching to VCs
The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and its Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship is marking Global Entrepreneurship Week (17th – 23rd November), with events at its campuses in London, Chicago and Singapore, and a real-life ‘dragon’s den’ which goes beyond the reality TV format of the popular programme to educate budding entrepreneurs how one should really pitch to investors.

As part of U.K. Enterprise Week, Chicago Booth will host an interactive session at its London campus with investors and a local entrepreneur that will go beyond the BBC’s Dragons’ Den format. During this sold-out session on November 18th, entrepreneur Dr. Riaz Agha, CEO of UK-based price comparison site GreatSwitch.com will present a finance pitch to a panel of high level international investors and venture capitalists, including:
- Keith Breslauer, managing director, Patron Capital (UK)
- Sherry Coutu, Angel investor (UK)
- Ashish Patel, EMEA managing director, Intel Capital (UK)
- Giuseppe Zocco , partner and co-founder of Index Ventures (Switzerland)
- Waverly Deutsch, Clinical Professor of entrepreneurship, Chicago GSB (USA)
Participants will obtain an understanding of the investor evaluation and deal structuring process that takes place after the pitch.
“Entrepreneurs are the world’s greatest engine of economic growth, and the activities of Global Entrepreneurship Week highlight the universal impact of innovation and ingenuity on our economy,” said Linda Darragh, director of entrepreneurship programs at the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship. “Chicago Booth is at the forefront of entrepreneurial education, highlighted by new venture creation, entrepreneurial finance, and groundbreaking faculty research. Through our international campuses Chicago Booth will continue developing leaders who have a lasting impact on the global economy.”
Similar events are to be held in Singapore on 17th November and in downtown Chicago on 18th November.
