New ministerial team for business and enterprise
If ever you want to lobby or air your feelings about entrepreneurship, lack of investment, IT industry competitiveness (but not European), or the confusing plethora of business support organisations, then you have new name to focus on. John Hutton, the secretary of state for business, enterprise and regulatory reform, outlined the responsibilities of his ministerial team following the appointment of new minister for business and competitiveness.

He said, “Shriti Vadera’s background in the city and at the treasury is good news for the department’s engagement with business. She will be a valuable addition to the ministerial team and a strong advocate within government for the needs of enterprise.”
The ministerial responsibilities within this department are as follows:
The Rt Hon John Hutton MP: secretary of state for business, enterprise, and regulatory reform - overall responsibility for the department but excluding pharmaceuticals.
Lord Digby Jones: minister of state for trade promotion and investment (jointly with FCO) - responsible for UK trade and investment and the defense business sector.
Pat McFadden MP: minister of state for employment relations and postal affairs - responsible for employment relations, ACAS, postal policy, the Post Office and Royal Mail, the insolvency service (including companies investigations) and strengthening regional economies.
Malcolm Wicks MP: minister of state for energy - responsible for energy policy, sustainability and the environment, security of energy supply, fuel poverty, nuclear security, WEEE directive, coal health claims unit, asbestos claims, British shipbuilders health claims, corporate social responsibility, the energy portfolio of the shareholder executive, export controls and export credits guarantee department.
Shriti Vadera: parliamentary under secretary of state for business and competitiveness -responsible for competitiveness, enterprise, growth and business investment, overview of relationships with business, business council for Britain, business environment unit, better regulation executive, better regulation within BERR, business support simplification, business sectors (aerospace, marine, e-commerce, communications and information industries, bioscience, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, construction, automotive, manufacturing, creative industries, retail, steel) and general oversight of the shareholder executive and its portfolios.
Gareth Thomas MP: parliamentary under secretary of state for trade and consumer affairs - also a DfID (department of international development) minister - responsible for trade policy (a shared BERR/DfID responsibility), EU competitiveness and the single market, services directive, consumer affairs, competition issues, corporate governance, companies act implementation and companies house.
